Privacy, in plain words.

What is stored

Only what you send:

• Idea board: your idea’s title and text, and your first name if you add one. Approved ideas show your first name on the card, or “Anonymous” if you left it blank.
• Contact form: your name, email address, topic and message.

When you send a contact message, a notification email with a copy of it goes to Richard so he can reply. When you suggest an idea, a notification email with its title, text and first name (if added) goes to Richard so he can review it. Notification emails go only to the site owner, and they are sent through a third-party email delivery service.

How it’s used

Only to review ideas and to reply to you. Your details are never sold.

Your IP address

We don’t store your IP address. When a request arrives, the address is turned right away into a one-way, secret-salted code (a hash), and the raw IP address is never stored. Each idea, vote and contact message keeps that code for as long as it’s stored. It’s used to limit spam and repeat votes.

Cloudflare, which hosts the site, still sees IP addresses in its own logs.

Your browser’s user agent is not read.

Cookies

The public site sets no cookies. The admin area sets one strictly necessary session cookie, and only after an admin logs in.

Votes

Voting needs no account. Your browser creates a random voter id, keeps it in local storage and sends it with your votes. The server keeps only a scrambled hash of that id. Clearing this site’s data in your browser removes the id.

The “Pause motion” setting is also kept in local storage. It stays on your device.

How long it’s kept

• Votes are removed along with their idea.
• Ideas waiting for review or already approved stay until Richard removes them.
• Rejected ideas are automatically deleted after about 30 days.
• Contact messages are automatically deleted after about 12 months.
• Notification logs are automatically deleted after about 12 months. They keep no message text or visitor addresses.
• Rate-limit records are automatically deleted after about 2 days.

Cleanup runs regularly, so each automatic deletion can take a few extra days.
